History of Yeonsu-gu

This is the transition process of modernization in Yeonsu-gu.
Yeonsu-gu was separated from Nam-gu of Incheon Metropolitan City on March 1, 1995. Five legal districts (Ongnyeon, Seonhak, Yeonsu, Cheonghak, and Dongchun) and 8 administrative districts (Ongnyeon, Seonhak, Yeonsu 1, Yeonsu 2, Yeonsu 3, Cheonghak, Dongchun 1, and Dongchun 2-dong) are involved and owing to the increased population, Cheongnyang-dong was newly made in 1996 while Ongnyeon 2-dong and Songdo-dong were created in 2003 and 2007 respectively. As explained, Yeonsu-gu is composed of 12 administrative districts as of today.
History of Yeonsu-gu
Jan. 1968 Introduced to Nam-gu in accordance to the district system enacted based upon Law No. 1919
Ongnyeon-dong, Gwangyo-dong, Munhak-dong, Seonhak-dong, Yeonsu-dong, Cheonghak-dong, Dongchun-dong
May 10, 1977 Changed the name of the administrative dongs in accordance to Municipal Ordinance No. 1075 (Proclaimed on Apr. 18, 1977)
Namcheon and Seonhak-dong were changed to Seonhak-dong.
Yeonsu and Cheonghak-dong were changed to Yeonsu-dong.
Jul. 1, 1981 Promoted to a metropolitan city in accordance to Law No. 3424 (Proclaimed on Apr.13,1981)
Jan.1, 1988 Divided the district from Nam-gu to Namdong-gu in accordance to Presidential Decree No. 12376 (Dec.31,1987)
Namcheon-dong that was the precinct of Seonhak-dong was introduced to Namdong-gu.
Jul. 1, 1994 Divided 1 administrative dong in accordance to Nam-gu Ordinance No. 323 (Proclaimed on Jul.1,1994)
Yeonsu-dong → Yeonsu 1-dong , Yeonsu 2-dong, and Cheonghak-dong
Mar. 1, 1995 Divided Yeonsu-gu from Nam-gu in accordance to Law No. 4802 (Dec. 16, 1994)
Divided 2 administrative dongs in accordance to Nam-gu Ordinance No. 343 (Proclaimed on Mar. 1, 1995)
Yeonsu 1-dong → Yeonsu 1-dong, Yeonsu 3-dong
Dongchun-dong → Dongchun 1-dong , Dongchun 2-dong
Jan. 1, 1996 Divided 1 administrative dong in accordance to Gu Ordinance No. 107
Dongchun 2-dong → Dongchun 2-dong, Cheongnyang-dong
Mar. 1, 2003 Divided 1 administrative dong in accordance to Gu Ordinance No. 384
Ongnyeon-dong → Ongnyeon 1-dong, Ongnyeon 2-dong
Dec. 18, 2003 Divided 1 administrative dong in accordance to Gu Ordinance No. 419
